Arrived in Iceland

Well, today was pretty awesome all considering. We arrived on time in Keflavik (Iceland's airport), cleared customs, picked up our luggage and made it to our bus without any problems. We arrived around 7am Icelandic time or about 12am our time.

Keflavik Airport and a view from our bus on the way to our apartment.
It is about a 50 minute bus ride from the airport to downtown Reykjavik.

I just forgot how annoying it is to arrive super tired because no one slept and realize there is almost an hour bus ride ahead of us. Plus, there is a transfer point in Reykjavik to smaller buses that take us to our hotels. Well, we ended up missing our transfer because Davin had to go to the bathroom and Fredrik got stuck with all the bags. Luckily, it wasn't that long of a wait but it just felt like forever because you are super tired and cranky.

We had a little detour near a harbor to drop off some passengers. It was very pretty!

We get dropped off about 2 blocks away from our apartment that we rented and realized that this is also annoying to do with all our luggage. Next time, someone please remind me just to hire a taxi? Sure it is a little lot more expensive (I checked and it is almost 4x more than the bus or about $120+ one way) but heck of a lot more convenient. Or maybe I will rent a car? I don't know. (Yeah, maybe? It is a $300-$400 or so to rent a car here for 4 days so that isn't too bad when you consider the price of the taxi.) The streets here are narrow and I just hate driving in a place I am not familiar with. Oh and it can be hard to find a car big enough for all of us plus our luggage. Hmm. Something to think about for the next trip!

This is our pick up and drop off address. It is about 1.5 blocks from our apartment. Lots of construction and one way streets. I might consider getting an apartment on the bus route next time.

So we find our apartment just fine but realize we walked the long way around the block to get to it. There is a lot of construction on the streets and most of the sidewalks were closed so we had to walk on the opposite side of the street for the most part. However, the apartment is nice and clean and very welcoming. We get the key from the lockbox and quickly unload our stuff. I think the kids ate a small snack and then we all fell asleep for about 4 hours.
